5.1 Earthquake Hits Desert East of Barstow; Shakes Hollywoodland

Crikey! I felt a nice, sturdy, 3-to-4 second swayer just now in tinseltown. No books fell off the shelf like they ostensibly did last summer during the 5.4, but I’m wondering how the Inland Empire is faring. USGS says: 5.5 magnitude (update: now 5.1), 16 miles WNW of Ludlow. That’s up the hill from the IE. Zac and the gang no doubt felt this one out at the Scripps College Performing Arts Center in Claremont, so let this be a lesson: Phnom Penh is no more dangerous a place to play a gig than Los Angeles on any given day. Discuss.

Sebastien Tellier @ Henry Fonda Theater, December 3, 2008

I caught the Sebastien Tellier show @ the Fonda last Wednesday. The sexy-voiced Frenchman makes the L.A. ladies crazy hot!

  • He toured with Air to promote his first album in 2001
  • Sofia Coppola used the track “Fantino” for the Lost in Translation soundtrack
  • His third studio album Sexuality (an 11-track meditation on love-making) was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk
  • This year Tellier’s Label Record Makers collaborated with retailer American Apparel for an exclusive three month pre-release of Tellier’s album Sexuality
  • He represented France in the 2008 Eurovision song contest

He’s kinda sexy! No?

Dengue Fever @ Scripps College Performing Arts Center Fri Dec 5

Hail, Claremont! Free performance & screening of band documentary Sleepwalking Through The Mekong at Scripps College Performing Arts Center this evening. Huzzah! If you haven’t seen it yet, you do need to check it out. In the immortal words of (arguably) Los Angeles’ Favorite Beard Zac Holtzman:

In Phenom Phen we were afraid the whole stage setup was going to fall into the river.
